First Net-Zero Primary School in Suffolk, UK Set to be Constructed by Morgan Sindall and Concertus
Construction Teams Announced
Suffolk County Council has enlisted the services of Morgan Sindall Construction’s Eastern Counties division and building design consultants, Concertus, for the creation of a new primary and pre-school in Lakenheath, UK. This exciting 1,500ft² project is set to be procured under the Suffolk Construction and Building Services Framework.
Looking at Design Challenges
Concertus associate director Darren Fellowes highlighted the cooperation with the Suffolk County Council Children and Young People (CYP) team and the existing school in designing the region’s first net-zero school. This project, similar to The Art of Home Designing in London, England UK, faced a myriad of design challenges from the get-go, particularly acoustics issues due to its close proximity to the RAF Lakenheath air base.
Project Features and Facilities
The two-storey school will offer leisure and recreational facilities, along with hard and soft landscaped exterior play spaces. The on-site two-form entry primary school will also feature a new 30-place nursery.
Focus on Carbon Reduction
The project will use the in-house carbon reduction tool, CarboniCa, developed by Morgan Sindall, to manage and minimize carbon output. This initiative reinforces the commitment to make the Lakenheath Primary and Pre-School the region’s first net-zero primary school.
Importance of the Development
Morgan Sindall Construction Eastern Counties area director Alister Broadberry stressed the importance of first-class educational facilities for young people’s formative years. He affirmed their understanding of the critical role this development will play for Lakenheath’s growing population.
